Boys’ title for Pachaiyappa’s College HSS

CHENNAI: Pachaiyappa’s College HSS with 85.5 points won the boys’ team championship while Karnataka Sangha HSS with 115 took the honours in the girls’ section in the two-day St. Joseph’s inter-school sports festival here on Sunday.

Govt. Model HSS, Kottayam, with 67 points placed runner-up in the boys’ section while St. Anne’s HSS also from Kerala with 67 points placed second in the girls’ section.

The ‘best male athlete award’ along with a cash prize of Rs. 2,000 was bagged by K. Shareef of Govt Model HSS, Kottayam, and in the girls’ section the award and cash prize went to Melianie Meyers of St. Patric Anglo Indian HSS, Chennai.

The chief guest at the valedictory function was Anand Natarajan, Supt of Customs and former international athlete. The director of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Dr. B. Babu Manoharan, presided.

Chandrakumar (Sri Sudaha Vaishnav School) 1.85m; triple jump: J. Surendar (Govt. Madarasa HSS, Chennai) 13.81m; hammer: N. Sankar (SRDF Vidyalaya, Chennai) 54.99m; 4x100m relay: Govt. Model HSS, Kottayam, 45.8s; 4x400m relay: Govt. Model HSS, Kottayam 3:33.2s.

Girls: 100m: Melanie Mary Meyers (St. Patrick, Chennai) 13.6s; discus: S. Mariammal (M.R. Matric HSS, Nerkuntram) 29.38m; 400m: K. Kathir Jothi (Karnataka Sangah) 64.3s; high jump: A. Rajeswari (SBOA) 1.25m; 5km walk: P. Gayathri Devi (Karnataka Sangah) 32:48.3s; 3,000m: Resin George (St. Anne’s HSS, Kottayam) 11.09.05s; javelin: A.
