This is with regard to the Kerala Water Authority’s (KWA) proposal to regulate water supply to Thiruvananthapuram city to two or three days a week (The Hindu, July 16). The KWA’s contention is that while the city residents get water round the clock, there are many areas that do not receive water for days together. The proposed restriction would remove the imbalance. Instead of regulating supply, the KWA should take steps to lay a new pipeline to distribute water to areas where it is not received daily or at least arrange to divert water for at least for 2-3 hours daily. It is cruel to regulate supply so as to ensure drinking water for all. V.G. Balakrishnan Thiruvananthapuram Pedestrians’ woes The feature ‘Bumpy ride for motorists’ (The Hindu, July 7) was timely. Motorists and pedestrians in the capital city are put to much hardship. Apart from unmarked bumps, zebra crossings at various places have almost faded, making it difficult for pedestrians to cross the roads. Uneven footpaths along the Overbridge-Thampanoor road make travelling difficult at night. Besides, there are no traffic police personnel at many busy junctions to assist pedestrians in crossing the road. Overtaking by two-wheelers and three-wheelers through the left side is common. The authorities concerned should take steps to streamline traffic flow. V.K. Kumar Thiruvananthapuram
