TRIBUTES: V.R. Krishna Iyer, (extreme left) Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, M.A. Yusuafali and Sukumar Azhikode at the first death anniversary meeting of A. A. Kochunni Master in the city on Sunday. — KOCHI: A. A. Kochunni Master, the first mayor of Kochi, was remembered by an array of politicians, public activists and former colleagues at a meeting held here to mark his first death anniversary. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, who opened the memorial meeting, said that though Kochunni Master had made his mark in various spheres of life, it was his contributions to the trade union movement that were more outstanding. V.R. Krishna Iyer said he would live in the hearts of Keralites as long as Kerala existed. Sukumar Azhikode paid rich tributes to Kochunni Master’s memory. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said that the very fact that Kochunni Master was among the longest-serving heads of trade unions was testimony to the fact that he had been held in high esteem. V.R. Krishan Iyer released a compendium of articles written on Kochunni Master by presenting it to the industrialist M.A. Yusuafali. Congress leaders P.C. Chacko and M.M. Hassan, CITU State secretary M.M. Lawrence and BJP general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan were among those who spoke.
