The Collector who inspected the Gowthimalai and Vediappanmalai hills along with forest department and revenue officials on Sunday said that detailed investigation of the iron ore rocks and stones abounding in the hills revealed the presence of 47 per cent iron content in them. An extent of 213 acres of land is required on the two hills for the purpose of extracting iron from the ore.

About two lakh trees are present in the two hills. The TIMCO would have to compensate the Forest Department for the loss of trees if the latter was to give the land for iron extraction.
