Atwal ends tied 15th

Springfield: An erratic front nine put paid to Arjun Atwal’s hopes of a top-10 finish and the Orlando-based golfer’s two-under 70 in the final round saw him sign off tied 15th in the Nationwide Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship here.

Atwal, overnight tied 10th, ended with a total of 15-under 273 at the Highland Springs Country Club. American Colt Knost (62) clinched the title with a total of 26-under 262.

Atwal’s roller-coaster final round was off to a disastrous start with bogeys on the second and fourth. He tried to pull things back with birdies on the fifth and sixth but a bogey on the next hole followed by a double-bogey on the seventh left him three-over at the turn.

The former Asian tour regular went on damage control mode in his flawless back nine and reeled off birdies on the 11th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th to end the tournament on a positive note. — PTI
