TIRUNELVELI: Demanding the release of water in Palayam Channel to save the standing paddy crop, a group of farmers from Kurichi staged dharna for a while on the Collectorate premises on Monday with bowls. The protesting farmers, led by Ganesan of Kurichi, said the standing paddy crop would wilt in the next few days, if water was not released in the Palayam Channel, one of the major irrigation canals in the district. “Since the officials released water for advance kar paddy, cultivated on over 46,000 acres, we’re now suffering a lot,” Mr. Ganesan said.
