AIZAWL: Lone Lok Sabha member from Mizoram Vanlalzawma of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), is likely to abstain from voting on the confidence motion in the Parliament, highly-placed sources in the MNF said here on Monday . If Mr. Vanlalzawma’s vote is to result in the ouster of the Congress-led UPA government, he would vote against the government, but if the UPA government survives he would abstain. A leader of the MNF, who did not want to be named, said that Congress was the main rival of the ruling party in the state and the party would not like to support it in the Parliament. “If the government is not going to fall, there is no point in voting against it as the Congress workers here would brand the MNF as pro-BJP and pro-Hindu in the coming state Assembly polls scheduled to be held by the end of this year,” he said. Meanwhile, Mr. Vanlalzawma told PTI over phone from Delhi that the Chief Minister and party chief Zoramthanga had not informed him of his decision. The Political Affairs Committee of the MNF on Saturday entrusted Mr. Zoramthanga to make a final decision on which side Mr. Vanlalzawma would vote after consultation with the MP on Monday. Mr. Vanlalzawma, however, said that the final decision may also be made on Tuesday, the day of voting in Parliament. — PTI
