YSR’s note of caution to private firms
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has reiterated the government’s resolve to take stern steps against private companies if they violate the clauses in the agreements signed with the government.
The Chief Minister said the government had opted for private developers in the development of basic infrastructure like ports and industry as the public sector did not yield the desired results.
In an interview to a television channel, Dr. Reddy said ports being developed by the private sector were being set up with all facilities.
The recently inaugurated Krishnapatnam port was developed at a cost of Rs. 1,100 crore in 18 months, while the Gangavaram port that was scheduled for inauguration next month would be bigger than the Visakhapatnam port.
The government was trying to secure maximum allocation of gas from Krishna Godavari basin to meet the State’s requirements.
He said some political parties were opposing the Indo-US civil nuclear deal as they were not fully aware of
the long-term benefits the deal would accrue to the country.
