Karunanidhi donates Rs. 1 crore

PROMOTING epigraphy: Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi handing over a cheque for Rs.1 crore to the officer in-charge of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, in Chennai on Monday.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday donated from his personal funds Rs.1 crore to the Central Institute of Classical Tamil for setting up a Trust to give awards to researchers making outstanding contribution to the field of epigraphy.

The Chief Minister had made an announcement to this effect while participating at the inaugural function of the building of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil.

P. Marudanayagam, Officer In Charge of the Institute received the Chief Minister’s personal donation. The State Ministers – K. Ponmudi, N. Veerasamy, A.V. Velu, and Tamil Development Secretary, G. Muthusamy were present on the occasion.
