TIRUPATI. Veena Sikri, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, has said that culture, with its many facets besides humanising society, will go a long way in binding nations of cultural commonality. This is more relevant among South Asian nations than among western countries, she said while delivering a lecture on ‘Culture and diplomacy’ at a programme organised here on Tuesday by Madabhushi Anantasayanam Institute of Public Administration (MAIPA). She said that there should be a holistic approach to use ‘culture’ as the ‘weapon’ to bring people closer and pointed out that globalisation had dealt a blow to cultural unity among nations. Curbing violenceShe wanted that forces of democracy should work towards enhancing the role of culture in curbing violence and promoting peace and tranquillity in society. MAIPA’s founder-president and former Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly A. Eswara Reddy was in the chair. He felicitated Veena Sikri with a memento.
