Bangalore: Congress MLC V.S. Ugrappa has urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to drop Minister for Large- and Medium-Scale Industries Murugesh R. Nirani from the Cabinet to facilitate an inquiry into alleged power theft by the Minister. Mr. Ugrappa told presspersons on Monday that the vigilance wing of the Hubli Electricity Supply Company had lodged a power theft complaint against Nirani industries. Following this, the police filed a first information report in February against Sangamesh Rudrappa Nirani and his brother Murugesh Rudrappa Nirani for having allegedly tampered with 42 electricity meters and causing a loss of Rs. 2.81 crore to the exchequer. Raising issueMr. Ugrappa said he had wanted to raise the issue in the Legislative Council.But following the sudden adjournment of the House, he was constrained to disclose the matter as he had got information that vested interests were making attempts to distort the first information report, he said.
