Mary Ann stuns Levin

NEW DELHI: Two-time Asian junior girls champion Mary Ann Gomes stunned seventh seed German Grandmaster Felix Levin while Abhijeet Gupta drew with third seed Bulgarian Aleksander Delchev in the eighth round of the Balaguer International Open chess tournament at Balaguer, Spain, on Tuesday.

Kruttika Nadig provided another encouraging result when she held 15th-seeded International Master Aleksandar Colovic.

In the Canadian Open in Montreal, K. Ratnakaran proved equal to fifth seeded Lithuanian GM Eduardas Rozentalis in 74 moves.

Ramesh starts well

In the Biel Open at Biel, Switzerland, GM R.B. Ramesh made a winning start but youngster N. Srinath unexpectedly lost.

Meanwhile, in the Politiken Cup at Copenhagen, Aswin Jayaram drew in the fourth round while Tania Sachdev lost.
