State youth championships: Young Orions defeats IBBC in boys’ league

Bangalore: Young Orions defeated IBBC 54-46 in a boys’ league match in the State youth basketball championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Tuesday.

The results: Boys: Young Orions 54 (Binoy Joseph 25, D. Davis 14) bt IBBC 46 (Sesharaj 18). DRDO 37 (Karthik 19, Akshay 16) bt National Game Village 25 (Rajath 14).

Girls: Bangalore Sporting 47 (Brinda 15, Priyanka 12) bt Rajmahal BC 36 (Sanjana 10). NAL Colony 17 (Anitha 10) bt VN Sports Club 12.

Cambridge Asia wins

Cambridge Asia won the Champions Trophy in the Sportz Village Inter Pan India soccerfest corporate football tournament here recently. In the final, Cambridge Asia defeated JPMC 2-1.

In the other Sportz Village events, Toshiba won the Premier Cup defeating HTMT ‘B’ 3-1, while HP ‘A’ won the Challengers Cup, defeating Infosys 3-2.

Kiran shines

J. Kiran’s 121 (12x4) and Karthik’s 77 helped Jaihind CC register a 196-run win over Mohan’s XI in the Sri Gopalaswami Memorial tournament match at Mysore at Gangothri grounds.

The scores:

Jaihind CC 346 for seven in 49 overs (Inclusive of 10 penalty runs for one over short) (J. Kiran 121, Karthik 77) bt Mohan’s XI 150 in 35.1 overs (Inclusive of 10 penalty runs for one over short) (Vilas 59).

Athletic championship

The Karnataka Athletic Association will conduct its state senior and junior athletic championship at Sree Kanteerava stadium from August 4 to 6.

The championship will be the basis for selecting the state team for the South Zone junior athletics to be held at Coimbatore from August 8 to 10 and the Open national athletic championship at Kochi and for the forthcoming National Games.

Events will be held in boys’ and girls’ under-14, under-16, under-18, under-20, men and women.

Entries should reach Satyanarayana, Hon. Secretary, KAA.

Easy for KSBA ‘D’

KSBA ‘D’ blanked KSBA ‘C’ 2-0 to win the Vijayanagar Club silver jubilee inter-club cue sports championship, at the Club premises, here. C. Ravindranath of KSBA ‘B’ recorded the highest break of 62 in the 6 Red Snooker game.

Final placings: 1. KSBA ‘D’, 2. KSBA ‘C’, 3. KSBA ‘B’, 4. KSCA. Cambridge Asia wins

Trophies presented

The Mysore District Football Association (MDFA) distributed the ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ division winners and runners-up trophies (2007-08) at a function held at Hotel Chirag in Mysore here on Tuesday.

The trophies were distributed by A.R. Khaleel, President, KSFA, and Krishna Narayan, Secretary, KSFA. Subramanya Swamy, Chairman, MDFA, and the other office-bearers were also present on the occasion.

The winners: ‘A’ division: Winner: Soniya FC; Runner-up: Ganesha FC; ‘B’: Winner: Ashoka FC; Runner-up: Bannur Town FC; ‘C’: Winner: Panthers FC; Runner-up: Friends Union FC.

Rahul bowls well

Rahul Kumar grabbed four wickets conceding just eight runs to set up Royale Concorde International School’s six-wicket victory over Embassy Public School in a Boost Cup under-16 inter-school cricket tournament match here on Tuesday.

The scores: Embassy Public School 71 in 19.4 overs (Rahul Kumar four for eight) lost to Royale Concorde International School 75 for four in 11.5 overs. Old Fort HS 234 for seven in 30 overs (Ranjeeth Kumar 67) bt RT Nagar Public School 48 in 15.2 overs.
