TIRUPATI: ‘Natural farming’, a concept founded in Korea by Dr. Cho Han Kyu in the sixties and practised in a dozen countries, has been introduced for the first time in the country on Tuesday at Pulicherla in Chittoor district. The patented technology, which is religiously followed by farmers of Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mongolia, Congo and Tanzania, has been introduced here on Tuesday by South Asia Rural Reconstruction Association (SARRA), a Bangalore-based voluntary organisation, which is the only body authorised to propagate the system in India. The system does not involve the use of pesticide, herbicide, chemical fertilizer, tillage and causes no pollution. The animal houses run under the method require no artificial heating and the natural feed is made by farmers themselves. Interestingly, Dr.Cho gave the idea to the world when there was no stress on environment and when global warming was not at all an issue. While traditional Indian farming employs cow dung, cow urine, neem oil, groundnut cake etc., what makes the Korean method unique is the extended list of natural inputs.
