Belgaum: Newspapers act as an important link between the people and the Government, Basavaraj Jagajampi who is contesting the Belgaum District Kannada Sahitya Parishat elections has said. He was speaking at a function organised to mark “Patrika Day” by the Karnataka Patrakartara Sangh at Savadatti on Sunday, a release here said on Tuesday. Newspapers were supposed to bridge the gap between the people and the Government. DemandBy carrying information on various issues to every nook and corner of the country, newspapers were playing a very important role, Mr. Jagajampi said. Vishwanath Mamne, MLA, who inaugurated the function promised to take up the sangh’s plea for monthly honorariums for journalists working in rural areas with the State Government. Former MLA Rajanna Mamni described the media as the “eyes and ears” of the people and had the role of a pressure group with regard to the legislature, the executive and the judiciary.
