Ring Road for NCR sought
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan has demanded construction of a Ring Road and a railway line encompassing the NCR in view of the Capital’s rapidly expanding population.
He said if Delhi had to be saved from ending up as a mega-slum, the Centre, the Delhi Government and the NCR Planning Board should construct a Ring Road and a railway line covering the remote areas of the region.
By 2021, the population of the Capital would go up to about 2.75 crore, he said, adding, “About five lakh migrants permanently settle in Delhi every year.” The basic objective of the NCR scheme was to decentralise the city’s population to the region but it was unfortunate that the Congress-led governments in the State and at the Centre had not thought seriously about developing the region.
“If the NCR areas are connected with a Ring Road, then new residential areas and industrial areas will develop,” Dr. Vardhan said. He said it would also help alleviate the traffic problem.
