Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leaders have hailed the winning of the confidence motion by the Manmohan Singh government. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy described it as a shining victory and conveyed his congratulations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He said that it was a victory of democracy and the interests of the nation. It was a recognition of the Congress’ vision which viewed the nation’s interests greater than power. He lauded Speaker Somnath Chatterjee for upholding the dignity of the Constitution. The developments served to bring to light the unholy alliance of the BJP, CPI(M) and the BSP. He added that the Left Front had lost its right to even speak about secularism. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said that the tie-up between the lotus and the red flag against the nation’s interests stood defeated with the passage of the confidence motion. In a statement here, he stated that the immoral politics which the CPI(M) played by placing Mayawati in the forefront had been miserably defeated. He expressed the hope that the party would learn a lesson at least from that. The bid which the CPI(M) made to communalise the nuclear deal too floundered. It also stood isolated on the issue. It had repeated its historic blunder once more.
