Corrections and clarifications

* * In “Children and cholesterol” (Editorial, July 22, 2008), the expansion of LDL was given as Low Density and Lipoprotein. It should have been low-density lipoprotein.

The caption of the accompanying AFP photograph in a report “Suu Kyi release likely in 6 months, hints Myanmar” (“International” page, July 21, 2008) was “Supporters of pro-democracy party leader Aung San Suu Kyi mark Martyr’s Day in Yangon on Saturday. Martyr’s Day commemorates the assassination of Ms. Suu Kyi’s father, General Aung San and eight other leaders on July 19, 1942.” General Aung San was assassinated on July 19, 1947, during an Executive Council meeting.

he heading of a report was “Continuance of failed marriage, for namesake, is cruelty: court (July 21, 2008), while the first paragraph said “When a marriage is dead emotionally and practically and when there is no chance of retrieval, its continuance for namesake will amount to cruelty, the Supreme Court has held.” The OED says “namesake” means a person or thing having the same name as another. So, the usage of “namesake” in the present context, instead of “for name’s sake”, is incorrect.
