Gandhi Bhavan, DCCs to go hi-tech

Party State headquarters will soon see a separate IT wing functioning

Membership drive aimed at achieving a target of 50 lakh members

HYDERABAD: As the party is gearing up its rank and file for the next elections, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to leverage technology to ensure “constant flow of information” between the State and the district units.

Visitors to Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress State headquarters, will soon see a separate IT wing functioning from its premises with 10 state-of-the-art systems.

The systems will be networked with similar internet-ready systems that will be positioned at the offices of the District Congress Committees. The party’s membership drive launched recently is aimed at achieving a target of 50 lakh members and APCC has decided to consolidate the information of new and old members into a single database.

Not just the information about members, data pertaining to the party’s activities as well as the problems encountered at the ground level can be stored in the database.

The two-way interactive systems will have information of all constituencies and will help the party have a real time communication with its district units. The systems will be operated by professionals who will be hired to upload and maintain the database. “Information like conduct of meetings or delegation of work to leaders at district and mandal-level will be fed into the system and the DCCs can update the database at their level. Accessing information will not be a problem anymore,” Congress legislator Nadendla Manohar said. The APCC will place orders for the systems within a week and the entire network will be in place shortly, he told The Hindu.
