BANGALORE: The Centre has filed an appeal in the Karnataka High Court against a single judge order relating to arecanut. Last year, a single judge had held that arecanut is not injurious to health. He had allowed a petition by Malnad Arecanut Marketing Cooperative Society which had challenged the labelling rules relating to packaging of areca and betelnut products.

Under the packaging rules, the Food Ministry had made it mandatory for tobacco, areca and cigar packages to display cautionary signs that they are injurious to health.
