Commission to hear more petitions

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Information Commission will increase the number of petitions it hears each day to 14 from August 1.

Seven petitions will be heard in the forenoon and seven in the afternoon sitting, State Chief Information Commissioner S. Ramakrishnan said here on Tuesday.

Until now, the Commission heard fewer petitions a day due to problems of staffing. Now that the four newly-appointed Information Commissioners had sat at sufficient number of hearings to familiarise themselves with the functioning and the norms of the Commission, more hearings could be scheduled.

The seven-member Commission will also look at holding hearings at different places across the State soon instead of asking petitioners to come to Chennai with their grievances. — Special Correspondent
