We can now take the next step: Kakodkar
T.S. Subramanian
CHENNAI: “We can now take the next step,” said Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar, when his reaction was sought to the government winning the trust vote on Tuesday.
The next step involves the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) approaching the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with the India-Specific Safeguards Agreement that the DAE had arrived at with the IAEA Secretariat.
“The Safeguards Agreement has to be discussed in the IAEA Board,” said Dr. Kakodkar, who is also the DAE Secretary.
Asked whether the IAEA Board would approve the agreement, he said, “Let us see.” The IAEA Board is scheduled to meet in Vienna on August 1.
