Preethi Vardhan, Venkatesh helps Aircel post big win

Chennai: Preethi Vardhan and Venkatesh shared an unbroken first-wicket partnership of 227 as Aircel breezed to a 113-run win over First Source in the Mobile Store Corporate Twenty20 held recently.

Ganga, Vishnu shine

V. Ganga Sridhar Raju (161) and R. Vishnu (107 n.o.) shared a 221-run second wicket partnership for Santhome HSS ‘A’ as it scored a facile 191-run win in their Boost-C. Ramaswamy Trophy U-16 tournament quarterfinal against PS Senior Secondary School on Tuesday.

The scores: Santhome HSS ‘A’ 356 for two in 50 overs (V. Ganga Sridhar Raju 161, R. Vishnu 107 n.o., B. Rahul 53 n.o.) bt PS SSS 165 in 49.5 overs (Pranav K. Raman 25, M. Adityan 28, R.K. Aravind 60 n.o.); Modern HSS 160 for seven in 50 overs (K.G. Sanjay Raghav 52, K.V.S.V. Uday Teja 25) lost to Vidya Mandir SSS 161 for five in 39.1 overs (Adithya Arun 44, C. Avinash 30, L.S. Thrilling win for Jawahar Vidyalaya

Jawahar Vidyalaya defeated PSBB (K.K. Nagar) by four runs in a thrilling match of the G. Rajakumar CBSE schools tournament here recently.

The scores: DAV Public School 46 in 14.5 overs (Hariharan three for 10, Guru Prasad four for six) lost to St. John’s (Mandaveli) 48 for two in 5.1 overs; St. John’s (Besant Nagar) 149 for six in 25 overs (P.T. Adyar Times chess

The Tamil Nadu State Chess Association will conduct the Adyar Times FIDE-rated all-India Open chess tournament from July 29 to August 3.

Sathyabama University teams win

Sathyabama University emerged winner in both the volleyball and tennis events in the men’s section of the south India inter-collegiate tournament, conducted by Christian Medical College, Vellore recently. Sathyabama defeated Surana (Bangalore) 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 in the volleyball final and edged VIT 2-1 in the tennis team final.

Other results: Volleyball: semifinal: Sathyabama bt SIT (Madurai) 22-25, 25-16, 31-29, 2-25, 15-13; quarterfinal: Sathyabama bt VIT 25-20, 25-16.
