Two brothers shot at, injured

Staff Reporter

Motive not clear: Police

Attacked on the way to their shop

Cash bag missing, says family

NEW DELHI: Two businessman brothers were shot and grievously injured by unidentified assailants at Karawal Nagar here on Tuesday. Their condition was described as serious.

Shafiq (35) and Ateeq (30) were driving to their shop at Sabzi Mandi in neighbouring Ghaziabad on a motorcycle when they were attacked by some assailants near Gola factory at Karawal Nagar in the early hours. Ateeq, who was driving the two-wheeler, sustained two bullet wounds in his chest and leg while Shafiq was hit in the back once.

Some passer-by informed the Police Control Room and the two were rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where they were said to be unfit for statement.

Their family shifted them to a private hospital later in the day. The two are residents of Bhagirathi Vihar in Gokalpuri.

A senior police officer said the motive behind the attack was not clear. “The incident took place on a lonely stretch early in the morning and there are no eye-witnesses. It is difficult to say who attacked the brothers and what could be the possible motive. We are waiting to record the victims’ statements before reaching any conclusion,” the officer added.

The police officer, however, did not rule out the possibility of some motorcycle-borne young men being behind the attack. “We cannot rule out any possibility at this point in time. The assailants could be riding a motorcycle or could be on foot,” the officer said.

The victims’ family reportedly has claimed that the two were carrying a black bag containing some cash which was missing after the incident.

The police have registered a case under Section 307(attempt to murder) and Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
