Rangasamy is in the picture. — PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Govind Singh Gurjar on Wednesday said that ensuring a clean and transparent administration would be given priority. Shortly after taking oath of office as Lt. Governor at Raj Nivas here, Mr.Gurjar told reporters that he would be accessible to the people who wanted to make representations to him. To a query, he said, “My doors are always open to the public.” Reading out a “message to the people,” he said, “My priority would be to accelerate socio-economic growth of Puducherry with equitable opportunities to women and weaker sections of people in the development of the Union Territory, in cooperation with the elected representatives. I look forward to the cooperation and support of all for the cause of creating a better and brighter future for the Union Territory and in making it a real peaceful Puducherry.” Mr. Gurjar said he was sure that the people would continue to associate themselves actively in the development of the Union Territory and extend their support to various development pursuits of the government. He stressed the need for augmenting the existing tourism infrastructure to make Puducherry a “long haul destination.” The Union Territory, with its peaceful and exotic locales, had evolved into a favourite destination for tourists from within the country and from abroad, he said. Referring to the “sound socio-economic status” of Puducherry, he said the Union Territory was placed in a commendable position in relation to per capita income and per capita healthcare expenditure when compared to other Union Territories and States. “It will be my endeavour to work for the all-round development of Puducherry, with emphasis on development of women, children and the downtrodden,” Mr. Gurjar said. Chief Judge D. Krishnaraja administered oath of office to Mr. Gurjar after Development Commissioner Naini Jayaseelan, who is holding additional charge as Chief Secretary, read the Warrant of Appointment in the presence of Chief Minister N.Rangasamy. Ministers, legislators, officials and leaders of different political parties were present at the swearing in ceremony. Mr. Rangasamy presented a shawl and a bouquet to the Lt. Governor. The Ministers and the legislators also felicitated Mr. Gurjar. The Lt. Governor, accompanied by Director-General of Police A.S. Khan, inspected the guard of honour presented by the police.
