Health melas to be conducted in all taluks They will be held on the 15th of every month HASSAN: Inaugurating the district-level “health mela” at the district training centre for junior health workers in Hassan on Tuesday, Hassan Zilla Panchayat president C. N. Balakrishna appealed to the Government to include kidney-related diseases under the purview of the Yeshasvini scheme. At present only open heart surgeries were included under the scheme, he said. The Yeshasvini health insurance scheme is meant for small and marginal farmers who are members of cooperative societies. The mela was jointly organised by Sri Chamarajendra Hospital, Hassanamba Lion’s Club, the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, State Bank of Mysore and Vivus Hospital, Bangalore. Specialists and super-specialists treated people at the mela. Mr. Balakrishna said health melas would be conducted in all the eight taluks in Hassan district on the 15th of every month. If poor people needed treatment for their heart ailments, they should contact him, and he would arrange for their free treatment at the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Bangalore. Mr. Balakrishna said the cost of healthcare in India was low when compared to other countries. Zilla panchayat CEO Shankarnarayana, in his presidential remarks, said these melas would help in educating people as well as creating awareness about prevention of certain diseases. He wanted more people to participate in such melas and take advice from the specialists.
