Corrections and clarifications

* * The first sentence in “Nothing in the nuclear agreements prevents us from conducting further tests: Manmohan” — Excerpts from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s reply to the debate on the motion of confidence tabled in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (Op-Ed, July 23, 2008) — was “The Leader of Opposition, Shri L.K. Advani, has chosen to use all manner of abusive objectives to describe my performance.” (What was published in The Hindu is what has appeared on the website of the Prime Minister’s Office.) Many readers feel this expression is wrong. The word could have been “adjectives”, as they say.

* * A report “Three BJP MPs allege they were offered crores of rupees to abstain” (July 23, 2008, page 1) said, in the fourth paragraph, that the MPs Ashok Argal and Fagan Singh Kulaste (Madhya Pradesh) and Mahavir Bhagora (Rajasthan) were all elected from Madhya Pradesh. Mr. Mahavir Bhagora (BJP) is from Salumber (ST) (Rajasthan), Mr. Ashok Argal (BJP) is from Morena (SC) (Madhya Pradesh), while Mr. Faggan Singh Kulaste (BJP), not Fagan as published, is from Mandla (ST) (Madhya Pradesh).

* * The ninth paragraph in a report “Naked display of money power, says CPI” (July 23, 2008) was “[Samajwadi Party chief] Mr. [Mulayam] Singh demanded the immediate arrest of BJP MP Ashok Agarwal, who made the allegation, and an inquiry into his charge. The SP leader said the fingerprints on the bags should be examined.” It should have been BJP MP Ashok Argal.
