Thumping win for Travancore Titanium

Thiruvananthapuram: Travancore Titanium blanked St.George FC 4-0 in the Thiruvananthapuram District Super Division football league at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium here on Wednesday.

Shahjahan struck a brace (41st & 45th), Johnson (51st) and Dinraj (61st) scored the other goals for Titanium which recorded its third win in the league.

St. Mary’s FC defeated Black Arrows 2-0 for its second win in the league. S. Earnest scored both the goals for the winner in the 43rd and 83rd minutes respectively.

District junior chess

The Ernakulam District junior chess championship, organised by the Chess Association Ernakulam, will be held at the Minerva Tuition Centre, Kalamassery, on July 26 and 27.

Players, registered with the association and born on or after January 1, 1989, are eligible. The top four finishers will represent the district in the State championship which will be held in Palakkad from August 15 to 17.

Interested players are to report at the venue at 9 a.m. on July 26 with proof of age. For details, contact M.S. Ananthakrishnan, the Chess Association Ernakulam secretary (mob. 94473-96758).

ONGC triumphs

The host ONGC, comprising Namit Sharma, Alok Kumar, Harish Karanchandani and M.Dey (98 points), won the team of four progressive title in the 29th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board all-India inter-unit bridge championship at the Cherai Beach Resort, near Kochi, on Wednesday night.

IOC-AOD finished runner-up with 84 points while and BPCL (81) was third.

Basketball tournament

The Mar Ivanios Trophy all-Kerala inter-collegiate basketball tournament will be held at the Mar Ivanios floodlit court in Thiruvananthapuram from October 13 to 17.

Rajesh in last four

Top seed R. Rajesh moved into the semifinals of the LIC South Zone table tennis tournament at the YMCA hall in Kottayam on Wednesday.

R. Rajesh (Chennai) beat K. Naresh Kumar (Salem) 11-9, 11-5, 11-6, 10-12, 11-9 in the quarterfinals. A. Nasasr, V. Sasikumar and T. Vijayendran also entered the semifinals in the men’s section.

In the women’s section, R. Geetha, Saliamma Sebastian, V. Jayalekshmi and S. Sujatha entered the semifinals.
