KCT, SREC lift titles

Coimbatore: Host Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) and Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (SREC) emerged the men’s and women’s champion of the Anna University Zone-7 badminton tournament at the KCT courts here on Wednesday.

KCT drubbed Kongu Engineering College (Perundurai) 3-0, and SREC fashioned a 2-0 win over Sri Krishna College of Engineering.

The results: Men: Final: KCT bt Kongu EC 3-0. Semifinals: KCT bt PSG Tech 4-1; Kongu EC bt Vellalar 4-1. Women: Final: SREC bt Sri Krishna 2-0. Semifinals: Sri Krishna bt GCT 2-0; SREC bt Kongu EC 2-0.

Ambal Auto Rally

The Ambal Auto Rally for two and four wheelers, organised by the Coimbatore Auto Sports Club, will be flagged off from M/s Ambal Auto on Trichy Road on July 27 at 9 a.m.

The one-day event, which has attracted about 50 entries, will be run on time speed and distance and will cover a distance of 100kms. The maximum speed allowed will be 45kmph and the minimum as low as 15kmph through crowded areas. There will be secret checkpoints en route to monitor the speed, and every second is liable for penalty whether running late or early.

The entire route will be monitored by Ham Radio network. The pre-event scrutiny and drivers’ briefing will be held on July 26 at the Coimbatore Auto Sports Club (CASC) followed by the rally the next day. The prize distribution will be held at the Cosmopolitan Club at 5 p.m.

Inter-school basketball

The 34th State level basketball tournament for schoolboys for the PSG Trophy, organised by the PSG Sports Club, will be held at the PSG Tech courts from August 14 to 17.
