SIT beats Syed Ammal, enters women’s final

Ramanathapuram: Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti) entered the women’s final of the Anna University zone IX inter-engineering college badminton tournament, defeating host Syed Ammal Engineering College 2-0 at Ramanathapuram on Wednesday.

In the other semifinal, KLN College of Engineering (Pottapalayam) beat PSNA College of Engineering (Dindigul) 2-0.

The results (semifinals): SIT, Kariapatti bt Syed Ammal Engg. College 2-0 (Jeba bt Ponmalar 21-5, 21-5; Jayanthi & Jeba bt Ponmalar & Pukalarasi 21-4, 21-6); KLN CE bt PSNA CE 2-0 (Deepika Rani bt Saranya 21-9, 21-9; Deepika Rani & Ramya bt Saranya & Mekala 21-11, 21-8).

Quarterfinals: Syed Ammal Engg. College bt TCE, Madurai 2-0; PSNA CE, Dindigul bt ACCET, Karaikudi 2-0; KLN CE bt KLN IT, Pottapalayam 2-0.

Government HSS wins

Government HSS (Edamalaiyur) lifted the Kannan-Eswari Trust Trophy, defeating host Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar HSS 25-16, 25-14 in the final of the sixth annual State-level volleyball tournament at Madurai on Wednesday.

For the third place, Nadar HSS Rajapalayam beat TVS HSS, Madurai 25-13, 25-14.

Gomathi triumphs

A. Gomathi claimed the SVPN Chidambaram-Ponnammal Charities Shield by emerging winner of the chess tournament organised by Virudhunagar Chess Association for students of V.V. Vannia Perumal College for Women at Virudhunagar on Tuesday. Gomathi scored 7 points in 7 rounds. Final placings: 1. A. Gomathi 7/7; 2. R. Kanimozhi 6; 3. S. Vijayalakshmi 6.

Chess tournament
