dated July 24, 1958: New regime in Iraq

President Nasser told a mass rally in Cairo on July 22: “We praise God that Iraq has won a victory over imperialism,” Cairo Radio reported. The President of the United Arab Republic, addressing a huge crowd in Cairo’s Republic Square, said Arabs were celebrating the Egyptian revolution of July 23, 1952, and the Iraqi revolution of July 14 this year.” He said that a victory for Egypt was a victory for the Arabs, just as an Arab country’s victory was a victory for Egypt. President Nasser’s speech was heard by a Ministerial delegation from the new regime in Iraq.
