Party takes out rally from various areas in Warangal Petitions gathered from residents on lack of basic needs WARANGAL: CPI(M) State secretary B. V. Raghavulu demanded that the Municipal Corporation come out with a comprehensive development plan that includes poor and marginal sections in urban areas. Mr. Raghavulu said the urban poor live in slums devoid of basic facilities such as street lights, sanitation, housing and roads. The government had always been driving away the poor people to the outskirts without including them in the development plan of any town or city. The lofty welfare schemes that were aimed at benefiting the poor somehow fail to reach the urban poor. He alleged that the administrators and public representatives were not making any attempts to solve problems as they lacked proper vision. “The developmental plans are not being made keeping in view the future growth and hence the shortages and deprivation,” he pointed out. PadayatraThe padayatra undertaken by the CPI(M) district unit leaders for 15 days in the areas under the Municipal Corporation jurisdiction demanding for more infrastructural facilities concluded here on Tuesday. They took out a rally from various localities to the district Collectorate. They submitted a memorandum to the Collector after staging a demonstration. The leaders went door-to-door in each of the localities in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet towns enlisting support of people to their agitation. They received over 10,000 petitions from the residents regarding problems such as sanitation, poor drinking water facilities, inadequate street lights, medical facilities among other things. The CPI(M) leaders walked 450 km during the last fortnight covering 53 divisions in Warangal Municipal Corporation area. Party leaders – G Nagaiah, Mettu Srinivas, T Uppaliah, Ragula Ramesh, A Rani, K Madhavi, M Ashok and others were present.
