CHAMARAJANAGAR: The ecological damage caused by unauthorised structures built on nearly 65 acres of forest land in the Biligiri Ranga Temple Sanctuary limits is irreparable, has said Deputy Conservator of Forests, Chamarajanagar Wildlife Division, R. Raju. The land was encroached upon allegedly by business houses owning coffee estates.Mr. Raju said that any person who encroached upon forest land for about 50 years by cultivating commercial crops would be liable to pay damages of Rs.1.26 crore a hectare of land to the Government. Mr. Raju said notices had been served to the estate owners of Honnameti, Attikane, Biligiriranga and Bedaguli areas in the sanctuary.
