‘Cancel varsity appointments’

Special Correspondent

Appointments made to nearly 200 posts

Varsity was issued a show-cause notice

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said that the Government would cancel all appointments made by the University of Mysore for various teaching posts, if it was found to have violated rules during the selection.

Replying to a call attention motion by R. Dhruvanarayana of the Congress in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said an inquiry would be ordered into appointments and a decision would be taken based on the findings.

Earlier, replying on behalf of Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri said that information about appointments had been obtained from the university by issuing a show-cause notice on December 27, 2007.

The Syndicate of the university had discussed the matter and admitted gross violation of rules, University Grants Commission guidelines and reservation rules. Appointments had been made to nearly 200 posts.

Action would be taken against all those candidates who produced false caste certificates to get selected, he said.

H.C. Mahadevappa and Siddaramaiah (Congress) demanded that the Government cancel all appointments made by the university.

Eligible candidates had been denied jobs by the recruitment panel of the university, the Congress leaders claimed.
