GUDIVADA (Krishna dist.): A village sarpanch was brutally killed in broad daylight at Moturu village of Gudivada rural mandal on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Immadi Veera Venkata Narasimha Brahma Prakash alias Narasimha Rao, 50, sarpanch of Moturu village, who was said to be a close associate of Rural Water Supply Minister Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao. The police suspect the involvement of 18 persons in the offence. The identity of the prime accused is yet to be established. The police suspected that those who had to lose their farmland for a Rs.28-crore irrigation project recently sanctioned to the village might have hatched a conspiracy to kill Narasimha Rao, as it was he who had taken the initiative to get the project to the village. An extent of 60 acres has to be acquired for the proposed project. The body was found near Moturu railway gate in the afternoon. The police found multiple injuries on the body and came to a conclusion that Rao was hacked to death. A case was registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
