Motorcycle gang held in Noida

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Six members of a “motorcycle gang” who had spread terror among residents of neighbouring Noida were arrested by the police in the early hours of Wednesday. All six are residents of the Capital.

The arrests assume significance in the wake of the recent spurt in violent incidents involving motorcycle-borne men in different parts of Delhi. Though the Noida police denied any connection between the arrested members and the Bunty gang that is allegedly involved in several recent incidents of shooting in South Delhi, the possible involvement of the accused in some cases in the Capital is not ruled out.

Three of the accused – Junaid, Haamid Ali and Jaid Mohammed -- were staying at Ghazipur Dairy Farm in Kalyanpuri, while Almuddin was staying in a rented accommodation at Jehangirpuri. Anil Arora and Jaiprakash Thakur were residents of Paharganj.

“Since all the accused were staying in the Capital, the likelihood of their involvement in some incidents in Delhi cannot be ruled out. We have committed raids at several places based on their interrogation and it seems they could be behind some criminal cases in the Capital, especially in the trans-Yamuna area,” said a senior police officer. The accused were allegedly planning to commit robbery at “K.K. Jewellers” shop in Sector 18 of Noida and had gone for a reconnaissance of the area when the policemen engaged in a routine vehicle check at Mamura Chowk arrested them.

“It was around midnight and the policemen manning the barricades tried to flag them down as they were doing triple riding dangerously on two motorcycles. One of them opened fire at the police team and they tried to flee. They were, however, overpowered after a brief chase,” said Sub-Inspector Ashok Pal, who headed the team.
