JAIPUR: Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot has hailed the winning of the confidence vote in the Lok Sabha by the United Progressive Alliance Government. “The people of the country wanted this,” he said. In a statement here, Mr. Gehlot congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the victory on the floor of the House. Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president C.P. Joshi and vice-president Chandra Bhan along with a large number of party leaders also expressed their happiness over the UPA win. A group of BJP supporters burnt effigies of Dr. Manmohan Singh and Ms. Gandhi at Chhoti Chuper in the Walled City area of Jaipur protesting against “horse-trading” by the UPA for gaining a majority in Parliament.
