‘Liver function test a must’

HYDERABAD: Noted liver transplant specialist Mohd. Rela has underlined the need for educating people on going in for liver functioning check-up during routine medical tests.

Liver disorders are common among people because of Hepatitis B and C viruses, but a majority of the people are usually not aware whether they are positive to these two viruses that affect almost three per cent of the country’s population. Though there is a perception that alcoholism leads to liver disorders, viral Hepatitis is more common than those affected by alcoholism.

Alcoholism too was a major cause in India as “people drink a lot” and it is not confined to social drinking. Dr. Rela who was here to perform liver transplant operation on Telugu film actor A.V. Subrahmaniam said that early diagnosis of liver disorders will help in early treatment and transplantation that is expensive can be avoided.
