He will submit a report to the court by August 22 CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday said that Malai Subramanian, a former Judge of the Madras High Court, would enquire into the alleged illegal detention of five persons, including three advocates, in Coimbatore earlier this month. A Division Bench, comprising Justices D. Murugesan and S. Palanivelu, said he would submit a report to the court by August 22. The Bench posted the matter for August 25. E. Gokulakrishnan, an advocate of Triplicane, had filed a habeas corpus petition before the Madras High Court stating that following a request from his sister Jayanthi to assist her in connection with a complaint preferred by her to the police, he, along with advocates Manivannan, Chinnalagu and Shankar travelled in a car driven by Ajmal. At Coimbatore, his sister and the other four persons were illegally detained by the police. During the previous hearing, the Bench had directed the police to reply to questions including whether Jayanthi was tortured at the Saravanapatti police station, and whether the five persons were illegally detained.
