Fishermen issue: tripartite meeting on July 31

NEW DELHI: The Centre will convene a tripartite meeting on July 31 to discuss steps to prevent incidents of firing and attack on fishermen from Tamil Nadu, allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said here on Wednesday.
Mr. Karunanidhi told reporters that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured him that he would take up the matter with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he visits Colombo for the SAARC conference in the first week of August.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, Fisheries Secretary and Director would attend the July 31 meeting. The Centre would be represented, among others, by National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan and Sri Lanka by its high commission officials in India.
