Inter-State burglar gang nabbed

Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh police has busted an inter-State gang of burglars and arrested six persons in the Chinhat area here.

The gang committed over 200 burglaries in about a dozen cities including Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Tirupati, Vijaywada, Guntur, Nagpur and Kolkata in the last five years and decamped with booty worth lakhs. It deposited the loot in two banks, the police said.

The arrest by the Special Task Force followed a tip-off that the Bawaria gang was preparing to strike at an electronic shop at Chinhat late on Tuesday night. Having taken positions, the policemen challenged the gang members when they alighted from a rickshaw.

After a brief encounter, the STF personnel overpowered the gang. Five of its members including leader Taran and Raju alias Rajendra Singh, belong to Kanpur. The other is from Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
