CYG baton relay from August 1
EW DELHI: The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) baton relay will start from the Delhi University (DU) here from August 1, according to the CYG Organising Committee (CYGOC) on Wednesday.
The Chairman of the CYGOC, Suresh Kalmadi, said the baton relaywould cover 8000 km while going through nine States before reaching Pune after a 74-day journey.
Around 6,000 sportspersons will carry the torch and over 7,500 volunteers will take part in it.
The baton will be taken in a 12-km journey in the Arabian sea with swimmers carrying it from the Gateway of India to Uran in Mumbai.
During the relay, water will be collected from every State and it will be used to create a ‘Fountain of Youth’ to mark the opening of the Games in Pune on October 12. — Sports Reporter
