Trained Civil Defence, Home Guards personnel to be deployed Women attendants to be posted in girls’ school NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra on Wednesday announced a slew of measures to step up security at Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run girls’ schools in the Capital in view of the recent criminal assault on a girl student of a municipal school. The new measures include identification of sensitive and vulnerable sites near schools and deployment of trained personnel from the Civil Defence and Home Guards in school premises. The civic body is also planning to deploy women attendants in girls’ school to keep a tab on any suspicious activity inside the school premises. “To prevent such incidents in future, I have written to the Police Commissioner stating that sensitive and vulnerable sites near schools be identified and personnel from the Civil Defence and Home Guards be deputed at these vulnerable points within a week. So far a total of 160 such points have been identified by us,” said the Mayor. MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta said that apart from providing security guards, the boundary walls of girls’ schools would be strengthened and cordoned off with barbed wires. He added that girl students would also be trained in self-defence to develop self-confidence and help them handle any such incidents in future in a better way. “In about 300 schools, work of constructing all four boundary walls would be completed at a cost of about Rs.300 crore,” he added.
