FOR A CAUSE: NCC cadets taking out a rally on ‘Save the Girl Child’ day in Puducherry on Thursday. PUDUCHERRY: The three wings of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group, Puducherry took out a rally to spread awareness of the declining sex ratio owing to pre-natal sex determination as part of the “Save the Girl Child” day on Thursday. According to a release, NCC had decided to observe July 24 as “Save the Girl Child” day across the country as part of the social development programme. India, being the second most populous country in the world, has an alarming sex ratio which continues to decline over the years owing to pre-natal sex determination. To spread the message, the NCC Group of Puducherry took out a rally from the NCC complex at Lawspet to the Gandhi Statue on Beach Road. Around 600 participants including associate NCC officers, staff and cadets belonging to all NCC schools and colleges took part in the rally. The team was divided into four groups and covered several areas of the town. The participants carried banners, placards and pamphlets relating to the message to save the girl child. Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Puducherry Colonel G. Dinakaran took part in the programme. Similar programmes were organised at Karaikal, Chidambaram, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Cuddalore, Mahe and Yanam.
