Of dialect: M. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, handing over a torch to Students Federation of India members in Thanjavur on Thursday. THANJAVUR: Medicine will be taught in Tamil also at Thanjavur Medical College, Stanley Medical College in Chennai and Madurai Medical College as per an order issued by the Government, said M. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, here on Thursday. He flagged off a march by members of Students Federation of India to highlight the importance of studying in mother tongue. The SFI members carried a torch lit by the VC called “Semmozhi Sudar” and went up to Rajah Serfoji College. The Vice-chancellor said it was appropriate that SFI was organising this march when Bharathidasan University and Anna University at Tiruchi have agreed to teach engineering in Tamil and medicine by the above colleges in Tamil. Dr. G. Baskaran, Registrar of Tamil University, and V. Karikalan, Thanjavur District Secretary of SFI, participated in the function.
