DMK flays Puducherry government

Special Correspondent

PUDUCHERRY: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), an ally of the ruling Congress in the Union Territory, on Thursday cautioned the government against resorting to any step aimed at reversing the policies and decisions taken during the previous government headed by the DMK.

In a statement here, convener of the territorial unit of the DMK and former Chief Minister R.V. Janakiraman urged the government to fulfil the promises made to the people on the floor of the Assembly from 2006.

People would teach the Ministers a fitting lesson if they focussed on issues than honouring the promises given to the electorate, he said. He flayed the government for not conceding the longstanding demands related to service conditions of lecturers who had been appointed on the hourly payment basis. The government had not taken steps to extend the service of 79 lecturers who had been performing their duty for the past 10 years, Mr. Janakiraman said The government’s move to fill 300 vacancies of lecturer’s post in higher education through the Union Public Service Commission would go against the interest of the locals. Mr. Janakiraman also urged the government to take immediate steps to fill the vacancies of principal’s post in six colleges.
