PUDUCHERRY: The joint struggle committee of teachers in Puducherry on Thursday announced a series of agitations from July 30 to September 5 to highlight the demand for implementation of the Assured Career Progression (ACP) Scheme in the Union Territory. The committee said in a release that the Centre had issued orders on August 9, 1999 for the implementation of the scheme. The territorial government also issued orders on September 3, 2007 to implement the scheme for all categories of teachers with effect from August 9, 1999. However, relevant files had not been forwarded to the Secretary (Education), owing to “indifference” on the part of some officials, the release said. Against this backdrop, the committee had decided to stage a demonstration before the Chief Secretariat on July 30. Taluk-level meetings would be held on August 4, 11 and 18. A campaign would be launched from September 1 to explain their demands. A slogan-raising agitation would be held on September 5 during Teachers’ Day celebrations. The Pre-Primary School Teachers’ Association, Puducherry, has decided to stage a protest before the Directorate of Education on July 29 demanding regularisation of services of all the pre-primary school teachers and disbursement of salary through the Education Department.
