Sun TV Network seeks direction to government

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has ordered notice of motion on a writ petition filed by Sun TV Network Limited seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu government to instruct the police to receive complaints from the satellite channel on illegal tapping of its signals, and take action.
In the writ petition, the channel represented by its Authorised Signatory L. Jotheeswaran stated that Royal Cable Vision (RCV), Madurai, and 12 cable operators, also of Madurai (cited as respondents), were illegally tapping Sun TV’s signals in different parts of the State. It was the duty of the Tamil Nadu government to protect the fundamental rights of the petitioner and prevent the unlawful and illegal activities. The police were refusing to entertain and investigate their complaints.
After hearing arguments by Vijayanarayanan, petitioner’s counsel, and N. Kannadasan, Additional Advocate-General, Justice A. Kulasekaran ordered notice of motion returnable in two weeks. Private notice to RCV and the cable operators was allowed.
