Works include construction of sump well for additional storage Three new overhead tanks under construction Pollachi: Pollachi Municipality’s Rs. 8.63-crore water supply improvement works to extended areas and shifting to daily water supply system are nearing completion. Municipal Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj told The Hindu that the source for drinking water would continue to be Aliyar with intake well at Ambarampalayam. At present, the Municipality was supplying 11.2 mld of water to 12,000 drinking water supply connections. Though there were no wait-listed applications for water connections, the civic body started the work to strengthen the supply network to cater to the extended areas. Mr. Selvaraj said three new overhead tanks were being constructed at KRGP Nagar (with 10-lakh litre capacity), VKV Layout (five lakh litres) and Somasundaram Layout (two lakh litres). The works also included improvements to the head works station, pumping station, booster station besides construction of sump well for additional water storage space. The civic body would also enhance the capacity of the motors for pumping additional water besides inter-linking the existing lines for about 35 km. The works are expected to be over by December this year. Streamlined water supply and a daily supply system could become a reality in the civic body by next year, Mr. Selvaraj said.
