Five injured in Kanhangad

KASARAGOD: Clashes between CPI (M) and BJP workers continue to cause tension in Kanhangad and neighbouring areas in the district. Altogether five persons were injured in clashes during the last two days. Property worth several lakhs of rupees has also been destroyed by both sides.

The clashes began with an attack on SFI Kanhangad area committee member Vineet Kumar while he was travelling in a bus.

The police have registered a case against BJP workers in the incident.

Subsequently, RSS worker Subhas (26), a resident of Kottappara, was attacked.

Those who suffered injuries in the clashes are P. Kunhikelu, DYFI Kanhangad block joint secretary; K. Surendran, an employee of LIC, Kannur; and Ramakrishnan, a BJP worker who is a native of Kolavayal.

The Kanhangad police have registered four cases in connection with the attacks. Policemen have been deployed in the trouble-hit areas in Kanhangad to prevent escalation of violence.
